Dance of the Daisy Cutters

To CBC TV

As I sit here in my comfortable office on a Saturday night in Nanoose Bay, children and all other living things are gasping for their last breath as another Daisy Cutter bomb collapses their lungs in Baghdad. The Coalition of the Killing are doing just that. Killing people to show whoever has been Designated-as-Evil this year that killing people is bad. It is raining pretty bombs on the CBC TV show called Attack on Iraq.

One unedited moment a commentator asks a correspondent for a description of what is happening on the ground in Baghdad. He says "can you give me... the choreography if you will?". "The Dance of the Daisy Cutter Bombs" is choreographed as a ballet, just like the "The Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy" maybe? They dance through the air like pretty fireworks, zoom, zoom, zoom. Like the fireworks competitions in Vancouver and Montreal in the summertime. It is a dance of death. The death choreographed by a Coalition of the those Willing to be the cops, the judge, the jury, the executioners. Salem, the Crucible, nothing has changed. The audience doesn't clap. Some of them are stunned and numb and cannot watch anymore. Some others believe that the authorities know best. And yet some others believe whatever they hear on the news, because they never learned to talk back to the TV. They'll hate whoever the TV tells them is the bad guy this year and cheer the soldiers on. United States of Amnesia. Pass me another liquid sedative please, honey.

And so, the obscenity goes on. And with every death, a little bit of me dies. Those dying babies, they don't get airtime. It's not cricket. It's not nice. Fireworks are nice.

A November 6th, 2001 BBC article described the weapon this way:

“Fuel-air bombs are particularly terrible weapons Those not incinerated are injured by the massive blast or the vacuum. Typical injuries include concussion, blindness, rupture of the eardrums, seared airways and collapsed lungs, multiple internal hemorrhages, displaced and torn internal organs.

The internal injuries are of a type which battle medics area not usually trained to notice immediately. “(2)
